The Explorer Spherical Roller Bearing From SKF

Did you know that SKF was the first to bring the spherical roller bearing to market, back in 1919? The original design by engineer Arvid Palmgren is similar to the spherical roller bearing that is used today but since its invention, SKF has been continuously improving them for modern machines. Their range of sealed spherical roller bearings is now the widest on the market, and it’s the following unique features that give the SKF Explorer spherical roller bearings, such high performance.

Symmetrical Rollers

The rollers in the SKF Explorer are manufactured to such tight dimensional and geometrical tolerances that they are practically identical in a roller set. The improved symmetrical rollers are self-aligning, to accommodate any misalignment, and provide optimal load distribution while preventing stress peaks at the roller ends. Along with a new patented heat treatment of the bearing rings, the SKF Explorer has improved service life and increased resistance to wear and contaminants.

Floating Guide Ring

All SKF spherical roller bearings have a floating guide ring instead of a fixed central flange on the inner ring. This ring unloads the rollers in a precise manner so that they enter the load zone in the optimal position. The rollers are also self-guiding to ensure that friction, and the heat caused by friction, is kept to an absolute minimum.

Sealed Bearings

The SKF Explorer spherical roller bearings now also include a standard range of sealed bearings, said to be the widest on the market. The SKF sealed bearings are designed to resist contamination, reduce the use of lubricant and improve production time.

In addition to these improvements, the SKF Explorer spherical roller bearing has a high load capacity and is capable of accommodating both heavy radial and axial loads in both directions. All spherical roller bearings from SKF contain strong window- or prong-type cages, making them hugely robust.

These products are the result of over 100 years of quality engineering and have certainly set the industry standard. Bearing Centre is proud to be an authorised distributor of SKF products and industry solutions and is always available to offer you the guidance and support you need when making your purchase.
